Fostering new generations of housing justice advocates

The National Housing Law Project (NHLP) established the David B. Bryson Memorial Fund in 2006 to honor our former colleague who was highly respected and well loved by the staff at NHLP and fellow advocates in the larger world of housing justice.

David B. Bryson was a gifted NHLP attorney who committed his boundless talent to promoting housing justice for low-income people. His groundbreaking work in affordable housing policy and litigation and his legal support for tenant advocates nationwide, including his authorship of portions of NHLP’s seminal publication, the “Green Book,” continue to serve as inspirational benchmarks for public interest attorneys.

NHLP’s David B. Bryson Memorial Fund continues David’s work by fostering the development of new generations of attorneys engaged in housing law to benefit our country’s most vulnerable — the poor, the elderly, and the disabled.

With the help of established friends as well as new supporters, the David B. Bryson Fund will continue to cultivate the brightest and best upcoming advocates who seek, through careers in public interest law, to move our country’s disadvantaged and vulnerable people closer to realizing their human right to housing.

Sylvia M. Brennan Memorial Fund

The National Housing Law Project (NHLP) established the Sylvia M. Brennan Memorial Fund in 2006 to honor our former colleague who was highly respected and well loved by the staff at NHLP and fellow advocates in the larger world of housing justice.

Sylvia found her meaningful life’s work in using the power of law to advance the right of each person to a decent, safe, and affordable home. In committing her passion and talents to housing justice, she left a legacy that is a reflection of her character and a lesson for all of us.

NHLP’s Sylvia M. Brennan Memorial Fund continues Sylvia’s work by fostering the development of new generations of attorneys engaged in housing law to benefit our country’s most vulnerable — the poor, the elderly, and the disabled.

Bill Powers Advocacy Fund

Supporting cutting edge advocacy for tenants’ rights

The National Housing Law Project established the Bill Powers Advocacy Fund in 2021 to honor Bill who passed away on November 25, 2020. He was a beloved member of the NHLP staff during his housing career.

Bill was a remarkable person, an activist at heart. He genuinely cared about people and acknowledged the value of each person he met. He dedicated his career to affordable housing, working for the Rural California Housing Corporation, the Western Center on Law and Poverty, and NHLP as a lobbyist at the State Capitol.

NHLP’s Bill Powers Advocacy Fund continues Bill’s work by supporting cutting edge advocacy for tenants’ rights.

Gifts made to the Tribute Funds are considered restricted for use in conjunction with the intent of the funds. All gifts are tax-deductible.
