The National Housing Law Project On Government Funding: We Refuse To Fund Trump’s Masked And Violent Agents

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The National Housing Law Project today released the following statement by Executive Director Shamus Roller in response to the looming partial government shutdown due to funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP):

“Americans across races, places, and parties value our freedoms – but the Trump administration continues to violate them by abducting our neighbors, ending life-saving public assistance programs, and terrorizing Minneapolis and other cities across our country. Trump is doing everything he can to take control and stability away from us all, especially Black and brown families and anyone who gets in his way.

“Government shutdowns have real consequences but now is a time to resist state terror and protect democracy. We support Members of Congress who have refused to fund Trump’s masked and violent agents.

“We’re fighting for our freedoms, our families, and our futures. While full government funding is essential to keep Americans housed, we support congressional efforts to curb the lawlessness of ICE and CBP.”

Participants in HUD and USDA housing programs should not experience shutdown-related disruptions in programs or services. Federally-assisted tenants would continue to receive rental assistance during the shutdown.
