NHLP staff is expert on a wide array of affordable housing issues, especially as related to the rights of low-income tenants and homeowners and the federally assisted housing programs.
Training areas include these and other issues:
NHLP provides in-person trainings to legal services attorneys, low-income resident/housing organizations and housing providers within our initiative areas. Because we often receive outside funding for these trainings, we can sometimes provide this service at little or no cost. In other instances, where we are unable to provide free training, we generally seek to be reimbursed for time, including actual training and preparation time, and travel costs. We ask that training sponsors publicize and make the training events accessible to housing advocates in nearby geographic areas. E-mail us at nhlp@nhlp.org with your training requests. Your e-mail will be forwarded for a response and follow-up from the appropriate person.
NHLP also conducts and participates in webinars on housing issues in which our staff has expertise. Webinars which are sponsored by NHLP, or in which our staff participates, are announced on this website. Webinar participants may be charged a nominal fee to reimburse our costs. Webinars sponsored by NHLP are typically recorded and archived and accessible for viewing by housing advocates. A list of archived webinars is available here. Some of these webinars are only accessible to HJN members.
NHLP frequently participates in training conferences sponsored by NLADA, the National Low Income Housing Coalition, the Housing Assistance Council, the Legal Aid Association of California, and in meetings of the Housing Task Force sponsored by the Western Center on Law and Poverty. These and other training events in which NHLP staff participates are listed below and you can get more detailed information on each organization’s website for the time and location of their next national conferences.
In conjunction with the national meetings of the Housing Justice Network, NHLP sponsors a one-day housing training. The next training is slated for March 6, 2010, in the District of Columbia. Check this website later this year to obtain more information about the next HJN meeting and housing training.
