NHLP Receives Verizon Grant to Assist Domestic Violence Advocates
NHLP has received a grant from Verizon Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Verizon, to provide support on housing issues to transitional housing programs and Family Justice Centers.
The National Housing Law Project (NHLP) is pleased to announce that it is available to provide free training and technical assistance on housing laws affecting survivors of domestic and sexual violence. NHLP received a $30,000 grant from Verizon Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Verizon, to provide support on housing issues to Family Justice Centers and transitional housing programs that serve survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
NHLP has provided numerous trainings and extensive technical assistance on the housing rights of survivors of domestic violence and sexual violence. We offer the following services to transitional housing providers, Family Justice Centers, and other domestic and sexual violence agencies:
- Technical assistance to advocates via phone and email regarding housing laws affecting survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
- Online, in-person and telephone trainings explaining how to assist survivors of domestic and sexual violence who have been denied housing, whose housing is at risk, or who need emergency transfers to safer housing
- Information and materials such as fact sheets for clients; summaries of legal developments; sample demand letters and other advocacy documents; guidance from the Department of Housing and Urban Development; and training materials to use in your communities.
For assistance with housing-related issues, domestic and sexual violence advocates should contact NHLP staff attorney Meliah Schultzman at mschultzman@nhlp.org or 415-546-7000 x. 3116.
