April 7, 2017: NHLP and the Shriver Center Co-Host Webinar in Response to Trump's Proposed Budget

NHLP and the Sargent Shriver Center on Poverty Law co-hosted a webinar on April 6 - "Trump's Budget: What Does it Mean for Local Housing Advocates and Their Communities?" At a time when our clients already face immense challenges to obtaining and maintaining safe and stable housing, President Trump proposed unprecedented cuts to the federal housing and community development programs. While this is only the beginning of the budget process, housing advocates need to act now to help stop the harmful impacts of the proposed budget on low-income families. The webinar provided an overview of the 2018 budget, lessons we learned from past administrations that tried to limit housing access for poor people, and discussed how local advocates could elevate the voices of their clients and help oppose the cuts. Presenters included Shamus Roller, Jim Grow, Jessie Cassella, and Deborah Thrope from NHLP, Marie Claire Tran-Leung from the Shriver Center, and Elayne Weiss from the National Low Income Housing Coalition.
