I'm reviewing our state PHA plan and found that the Section 8 Admin Plan has a provision giving a 6 month earned income disregard to those Section 8 families who report at an interim recertification that they have gone "from benefit income to employment income." No other details given. I checked the regs and found references to permissive deductions/income disregards for public housing only. Is there authority to do this for Section 8 families? As a fall-back I know I can encourage the PHA to simply delay reporting of earned income until the annual recertification, but if there's a way they can do this as an optional disregard I'd like to encourage them. Any ideas out there?
