Staff Attorney Position – Housing Law
Position: The Legal Assistance Foundation of Chicago (LAFC) seeks an attorney to specialize in housing law.
Background: LAFC is the principal provider of free legal services in civil matters to low-income people in Chicago and suburban Cook County. LAFC employs approximately 70 attorneys, many with substantial experience in poverty law.
Responsibilities: The attorney will specialize in a wide variety of housing matters and cases in the following areas: public housing, Section 8 project-based and tenant-based housing, federally subsidized multi-family housing, private landlord/tenant housing, and building court. The attorney will work and co-counsel cases with intake office attorneys and will also be responsible for his/her own case load in these areas, including impact litigation in state and federal court. The attorney will also work on housing policy issues on both the local and national level.
Qualifications: Minimum requirements for this position are two years of relevant litigation and administrative advocacy experience, with significant expertise is housing issues as described above. Excellent writing skills are essential.
Salary/Benefits: Salary depends on experience. Excellent benefits.
