Housing Justice Network (HJN)
What is the Housing Justice Network?
The Housing Justice Network ("HJN", formerly the Loose Association of Legal Services Housing Attorneys and Clients,
or LALSHAC) is a unique organization of housing advocates and clients that
was formed in 1997 in response to the recognition that many client issues
can be addressed more effectively through coordinated advocacy aimed at
HUD, USDA and Congress and through a regular exchange of information
on matters relating to ongoing litigation and other client housing issues. HJN operates through a series of working groups focused on issues relating
to public and subsidized housing, Section 8 assistance, single family housing
foreclosures, fair housing, CDBG and HOME programs, the housing programs
of the Rural Housing Service, and the Federal Budget. Each of the
working groups remain active through correspondence, telephone conference
calls, electronic mail and this discussion board. Working groups
represent their clients’ interests by meeting with HUD or USDA officials,
participating in agency rulemaking, testifying before congressional
committees and by simply exchanging information on litigation matters or
housing policy issues.
Approximately every eighteen months, the HJN working groups have
been holding a two- to three-day national meeting to bring HJN participants
together to discuss and review issues on which the working groups have
been concentrating, to learn about emerging and critical housing issues
and formulate future workplans.
This web-site offers HJN members yet another means of communication,
namely, a discussion area. The HJN discussion area is private
and accessible only to HJN members. To gain access to HJN,
you must complete a registration form by printing the form, filling it out, and faxing it
to NHLP at (510) 451-2300, or email the requested information to the National Housing Law Project at nhlp@nhlp.org. We will review your eligibility to participate in HJN discussion groups and advise you of our decision.
Registration Form
Membership in the Housing Justice Network is restricted to persons who regularly represent
low and very-low income persons and households on housing issues.
Typically, HJN members are attorneys or other housing advocates who
represent residents and homeowners in judicial, administrative or legislative
proceedings. Representatives of landlords, housing authorities, federal
or state agencies and others whose interests do not consistently coincide
with those of very low-income persons usually cannot join HJN.
To join HJN, you must complete a registration form by printing the form, filling it out, and faxing it to NHLP at (510) 451-2300, or email the requested information to the National Housing Law Project at nhlp@nhlp.org. We will review your eligibility to participate in HJN discussion groups and advise you of our decision.
