House Appropriations for Rural Housing:
Drastic Reductions in Rental Housing Funds

In a June 12, 1996, vote, the House drastically reduced funding for the Section 515 Rural Rental Housing program administered by the Department of Agriculture's Rural Housing Service.1 The Section 515 program is the primary vehicle for both construction and operation of rural multifamily rental housing.

The following table lays out the funding decisions to date for several rural housing programs.
