HUD Offers Demolition/Disposition Guidance for the New Public Housing Era

HUD has published a Notice providing guidance to changes made in public housing demolition disposition law. The most important changes to the public housing demolition law authorized by the Quality Housing and Work Responsibility Act of 1998 are elimination of one-for-one replacement, elimination of the right of first refusal for residents to purchase buildings slated for demolition, changes in the relocation protections residents have long enjoyed; and further curtailment of HUD’s already limited involvement in the demolition/disposition process. This Notice provides guidance on implementing the new demolition/disposition requirements, including the processing of applications and other procedural requirements.
