Conference Addresses Rural Housing - Report IssuedOn December 12-14, 1996, the National Rural Housing Conference, sponsored by the Housing Assistance Council (HAC), brought together more than 700 persons from around the country to participate in both policy and practical workshops on rural housing issues. During the conference HAC released a report, The State of the Nation's Rural Housing in 1996. Among its findings, the report confirmed that affordability is as much a problem for rural households as for urban ones. Thirty-eight percent of rural households with incomes under $10,000 pay more than half their incomes for housing, and more than half of such households pay more than 70 percent of their income for housing. Copies of this report are available directly from the Housing Assistance Council, 1025 Vermont Avenue, N.W., Suite 606, Washington, DC 20005, Tel. (202) 842-8600. The cost is $7.00.
