Project Receives Nonprofit Housing Award

On December 15, 1995, the National Housing Law Project was presented with a 1995 Leadership Award by the Northern California Association of Nonprofit Housing. The Project was recognized for its efforts and accomplishments over the past 27 years to preserve and improve the housing opportunities of low-income people across the country.

Also acknowledged with awards were the Cowell Foundation, for its support of affordable housing, and Arnold Sternberg, who had worked in Washington, D.C., on behalf of the Project in its early years, and is now a developer of affordable low-income housing in Northern California. In his remarks at the award presentation, Arnold emphasized the need to view low-income housing not as an "industry," but rather as a movement in which the creation or preservation of any units represents a vital step forward in sheltering those in need.

The Project is proud to receive this award and to continue the struggle of preserving and expanding the supply of housing affordable to low-income people and of establishing the right to housing as a basic human right for all.
